Garbage disposal repair and replacement

A garbage disposal fails in three ways and only three: it jams, it leaks, or it loses power. A jam is the most common by a wide margin and is usually clearable on the spot. A leak is about where it is coming from — the sink flange, the dishwasher inlet, or the body itself — and only the last of those means a new unit.

We service continuous-feed and batch-feed disposals, including the mounting assembly, the drain connection, and the dishwasher inlet. When a replacement genuinely is the right answer, you get that recommendation with the reason rather than after a repair that was never going to hold.

What usually goes wrong

The faults we see most often on garbage disposals. If yours is on this list, say so when you book — it helps us load the right part before we set off.

Hums but does not turn

A jammed impeller. Almost always clearable, and it is the most common call on this appliance.
Completely dead, no sound at all

A tripped internal overload, a failed wall switch, or a motor that has burned out.
Leaking underneath the sink

Where it drips matters: sink flange, dishwasher inlet, or a cracked body — only the last one needs a new unit.
Drains slowly or backs up

A partial blockage past the disposal in the trap or the branch line rather than the unit itself.
Very loud grinding or rattling

Foreign object in the chamber, or broken impeller lugs on an older unit.
Trips the breaker when switched on

A seized motor or a winding fault — replacement is usually the right call here.

We wanted our dryer vent cleaned, I coordinated with 3 other neighbors to have the service done the same day for the 4 houses. The Technician Artem was excellent, on time (minus a gate code glitch) respectful of the property, worked quickly and efficiently and left the laundry room clean of all the lint behind the machines. I felt the pricing was a bit high, but the service comes with a 6 moths warranty. My disposal hums but nothing happens. Is it dead?

Almost certainly not. That hum means it has power and is jammed. Switch it off at the wall before anything else — most of these are cleared on the visit.

What should never go down a disposal?

Fibrous vegetable waste, coffee grounds, grease, bones, and eggshells in quantity. Those four account for most of the jams we clear.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a disposal?

Jams, flange leaks, and switch faults are always worth repairing. A seized motor or a cracked body is not — a new unit costs less than the labour to save the old one.

Can you connect my dishwasher to a new disposal?

Yes. The knockout plug has to be removed on a new unit before the dishwasher inlet will drain, and that is part of the fitting.
